Introduction

Paystar is a Tanzania Central Bank-approved payment aggregator that empowers businesses to accept online customer payments easily. It manages the settlement of these payments, ensuring that funds collected from customers are securely transferred to online businesses. Paystar supports a variety of payment methods, including debit cards, credit cards, cardless EMIs, UPI, bank transfers, e-wallets, and e-mandates, offering businesses flexible options to enhance customer experience.

Get Started

To integrate Paystar into your application, follow this step-by-step guide.

step 1

Creating a Developer Account

Sign up for a free developer account. This grants you access to our sandbox environment, where you can test and simulate all features.

In the sandbox (test) environment, you can:

  • Pay your team in local or foreign currency

  • File all statutory contributions on time

  • Meet country-specific tax and labour regulations

  • Avoid fines, disputes, or costly payroll errors

step 2

Automation

Create and collect payments automatically via smart APIs.

  • Paystar Standard – Generate Paystar checkout UI using the standard API.

  • Libraries (SDKs) and Plugins

  • Direct API Integrations – Process payments from your server using Paystar’s endpoints.

Once you’ve selected an integration method, test it thoroughly using sandbox credentials and mock data. Paystar has compiled common errors and best practices to help you troubleshoot issues early.

step 3

Create Your Account

After completing your integration, sign up for a production account. This account grants you access to actual transaction processing capabilities for live transactions.

step 4

Completing Your KYC

To initiate live transactions, you must complete the KYC verification process. This requires submitting your business registration documents and other required materials for identity verification and compliance checks.

step ∞

Going Live

Once your account is verified and approved, you’re ready to start accepting real payments in 30+ currencies from your Paystar dashboard.

Before you start transacting:

  • Explore your dashboard: It offers more settings and features than the test mode. Watch our quick demo to familiarize yourself with the interface.

  • Transfer your settings: Apply the same configurations (webhooks, redirect URLs, allowed domains, etc.) from test mode to your live account.

Payment Gateway

Q1.What is an online payment gateway?

An online payment gateway is a secure technology that facilitates digital transactions by transmitting payment information between merchants, customers, and banks, encrypting sensitive data (such as card details) and authorizing payments instantly to ensure smooth and protected online purchases.
